NBP President Appointed President of Newly Launched Terminal Company

Masamichi Morooka, current president and CEO of NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. (NBP; Tokyo, Japan), has been appointed as the first president of the newly launched Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Corporation. Mr. Morooka will concurrently serve as the head of both companies for a period time.


Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Corporation was founded on January 12, 2016 by the city of Yokohama, and will also be owned by the city of Kawasaki, the Japanese government, and a few private companies. From this spring, the new company will be active in various business fields, such as strategic planning for container terminals and sales for cargoes at the ports of Yokohama and Kawasaki.

NBP Ships Rugby Balls from Japan to Tongan Children Free of Charge

NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. (NBP; Tokyo, Japan; president & CEO: Masamichi Morooka), a wholly owned subsidiary company of NYK Line, has shipped 248 rugby balls free of charge from Japan to children in the Kingdom of Tonga.

 The balls were donated by Japan’s Kanagawa Rugby Football Union and delivered to Tonga’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on 29 July via M/V South Islander, a multipurpose vessel operated by NBP.

 Tonga comprises 170 South Pacific islands, and rugby is a very popular sport among the country’s residents. Each ball was imprinted with the message “‘We Love Tonga.”

 NBP is proud of its corporate social responsibility efforts and hopes that the donated balls will help the children mature into healthy adults.

NBP Concludes 15-Year Contract for New Bulk Carrier

NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. (NBP; head office: Tokyo; president: Masamichi Morooka) has agreed to a contract with Baja Bulk Carriers S.A. (head office: California, USA), which is a joint venture between the Mitsubishi Corporation (head office: Tokyo; president and CEO: Ken Kobayashi) and the Mexican government, for a 15-year charter of a newly built bulk carrier specialized to transport salt. The new bulker will be delivered in August 2014.
